Magisterial probe ordered

Imphal, October 27 2024: Following an agreement between the State Government and the JAC Against the Unnatural Death of Bashanti and her daughter Lanchenbi, a Magisterial enquiry has been instituted to enquire into the circumstances surrounding the death of the mother-daughter duo.

Following the agreement reached on October 23, the JAC claimed the dead bodies from RIMS mortuary today.

As assured by the Chief Minister, the Imphal West District Magistrate has started a magisterial enquiry into the twin deaths of Ningombam (N) Adhikarimayum (O) Bashanti Devi (48) and her minor daughter Adhikarimayum Lanchenbi Devi (4) of Haoreibi Mayai Leikai, Imphal West, the JAC said in a press release.

The residential plot in which the deceased mother and daughter had resided will be dedicated to the community for construction of a public memorial, according to the agreement.

The magisterial enquiry will ascertain the facts and circumstances leading to the death of the mother and the daughter, and suggest remedial measures to avoid the recurrence of such incidents in future.

The District Magistrate, Imphal West should submit the enquiry report to the Government within 30 days, according to an order issued by Joint Secretary (Home) Ranjan Yumnam on October 23 .

Meanwhile, the last rites of the woman and her daughter were performed today.
