Busting a gang of vehicle lifters, Imphal East District Police have arrested four members of the gang besides recovering four stolen two-wheelers from their possession.
Talking to mediapersons in this connection at the Police Headquarters of Imphal East District at Porompat today, SDPO Birbabu Singh informed that investigation into a case lodged with the Heingang Police Station in connection with a Kinetic Activa Honda scooter stolen from the campus of Cathelic Medical Centre (CMC) at Koirengei on June 19 led to the busting of the gang and recovery of the two wheelers along with arrest of four members of the gang.
One Longjam Jiban Singh (19) s/o Nimai of Top Siphai who works as a security guard of the private security provider Manipur Guard Service at CMC lodged the complaint with the Heingang Police Station on June 20 .
Based on his statement, one Chanamthabam Naoba Meitei (24) s/o late Indrajit of Koirengei was arrested on the same day and one Kinetic Honda (Zoom) bearing registration no.MN-1J/9143 was recovered from his possession.
Following the interrogation of Naoba, the police also arrested Thoudam Shyamo Singh (34) s/o Nongyai of Keikol Makha Leikai, who runs a workshop from his house and Chongtham Captain Singh (40) s/o Mahindra of Khonghampat Awang Leikai on June 24 morning.
One black colour Hero Honda motor cycle without registration number, one black colour Honda Activa scooter also without registration number and one silver colour Honda Activa bearing registration number MN-01N/4175 were recovered from the possession of the last two arrested persons, the SDPO informed, adding that the engine as well as the chassis numbers of all the three vehicles have already been tampered with.
It has also been known that Naoba, who is the leader of the gang had stolen a Yamaha motorcycle from near the bridge of Koirengei, the SDPO informed, while assuring that the same would also be recovered very soon.
The SDPO further informed that Jiban, who is the first one to be arrested has been remanded to judicial custody after being produced before a court today while Naoba, Shymo and Captain are still in police custody.
Heingang Police Station is also continuing with the investigation.
All four of them have been reportedly send to the jail later during the day.
Meanwhile, a Bajaj Pulser 150 bearing registration number MN-1M/4983 has been reportedly stolen from near the gate of Sangaiprou Kabui village at around 7.30 pm yesterday.
