Imphal, September 24 2026: Receiving a Fulbright-Nehru Post-doctoral Fellowship, Dr Wairokpam Yaiphaba Chenglei is set to enter the University of Maryland in the United States of America as a postdoctoral research scholar for a period of one year from October 1, 2026 to September 30, 2027 .

At the University of Maryland, Dr Yaiphaba will conduct a comparative research on Manipur's Lai Haraoba and the Green Corn ceremony of the Cherokee, a native community of the US.

His research seeks to promote indigenous philosophy and traditional knowledge.

Dr Yaiphaba Chenglei hails from Thangapat Mapal, Palace Compound, Imphal, and is the youngest son of Wairokpam Shelung-ba and Wairokpam ongbi Swarnalata Devi.

The Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Research Fellowship is a competitive programme funded by the United States-India Educational Foundation (USIEF) for early-career Indian faculty and researchers to conduct post-doctoral research at US institutions.
