Imphal, June 24 2025:
Congress MLA Th Lokeshwar (Khundrakpam AC) has urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to step down if he cannot work out a solution to the crisis besetting Manipur since May 3, 2023.Addressing a function at Chanung, he stated that Union Home Minister Amit Shah's recent remark on the challenges of forming a popular Government in Manipur was nonsensical.
Expressing disappointment, Lokeshwar said that he didn't expect such a remark from someone in a respected position like Amit Shah.
The Union Home Minister's statement seemed to shift the onus of restoring normalcy on to the people rather than the Government taking responsibility, the Congress leader charged.
He added that the ongoing conflict only highlights the Centre's, particularly the Union Home Minister's, failure.
Asserting that maintaining law and order is the Government's fundamental duty, Lokeshwar added that the Union Home Minister must resign as he has failed to restore peace in Manipur.
He further alleged that Amit Shah's statement amounted to belittling the people of Manipur including the BJP MLAs.
Condemning Amit Shah's statement, Lokeshwar asked whether the Centre wants the people of Manipur to continue suffering.
The Prime Minister also hasn't given the BJP MLAs in Manipur an audience despite the State's dire situation, he rued and alleged that the Centre's intention to let the crisis drag on is becoming increasingly evident.
He urged the Prime Minister to meet the BJP MLAs before the upcoming Parliament session and devise a strategy to resolve the conflict.
