TG students warn stir

Imphal, April 24 2013: Students of Tamphasana Girls' Higher Secondary School have warned that they would launch intense agitation from Friday if the authority concerned fails to meet the various demands they have raised, including appointment of regular Principal and Vice-Principal of the school, by tomorrow.

Announcing this to the press today at the school premises, finance secretary of TG Hr Sec School Students' Union, Huidrom Bideshwori Devi said many inadequacies beset one of the State's premier girl's higher secondary schools.

Urging the authority concerned to appoint regular principal and vice-principal of the school at the earliest, she questioned on what basis the incumbent principal, who had already retired on Dec 31, 2012, is reappointed as the principal of the school on contract basis.

Pointing out a standing Government order that guaranteed re-employment of teachers conferred with National Award or State Award for a maximum of two years for National Awardees and one year for State Awardees beyond the date of superannuation purely for academic purpose, Bideshwori contended that the incumbent principal does not meet the criteria for re-employment as principal.

Referring to the Govt order for re-employment of teachers, Bideshwori also pointed out that re-employed teachers are not entitled to function as DDO/Head of office/Headmaster/headmistress/Principal or any other post related to administrative work.

She said that the students had closed the offices of the principal, vice-principal, teaching staff and non-teaching staff on April 22 to register protest over the alleged negligence of the authority concerned in addressing the demands raised by them and which was already highlighted to the Education Minister on April 18 through a memorandum besides releasing a press note on April 16 .

Bideshwori further pointed out that no proper toilet has been provided to the school that has over 2000 students.

Insufficient laboratory, incomplete Hall, non-upgradation of hostel, no common room, incommodious library hall are the other woes that the students highlighted for immediate redressal, according to Bideshwori.

She therefore warned that intense agitation would be launched from April 26 unless the authority concerned fulfils the demands by April 25 .
