Police remand for main accused

Longjam Boy alias Khaba (35) s/o Ibohal of Yumnam Huidrom Thiyam Leishangkhong, the alleged main accused in the murder case of Chesam Abdul Kadir has been remanded to police custody for eight days while the police custody remand of six other accused has been extended by four days.
Longjam Boy alias Khaba was arrested by police from Monsangei Makha Arubam Leikai near Puthiba Laibung yesterday and he was produced before the Court of Judicial Magistrate, First Class, Imphal West today.
Six other accused identified as Heikrujam Prafullo (35) s/o (L) Sharat of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai, Huidrom Shyamsunder alias Naoba (30) s/o Inaomacha of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai, Longjam Hanson alias Naocha (24) s/o Maimu of Wangoi Longjam Leikai, Thounaojam Ashok (22) s/o Amujao of Wangoi Longjam Leikai, Heikrujam Premchand alias Puremba (28) s/o (L) Chinglen of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai and Sapam Dayani Devi (42) d/o Mangoljao of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai were also produced before the same Court by a team of Wangoi police station after completion of police custody period along with a prayer for further police custody remand.
The State's APP, citing an enquiry report submitted by Wangoi police station, submitted that Chesam Abdul Kadir left home at around 3 am of June 11 and failed to return home.
During the investigation of the case, information was received that one unknown youth was handed over by the locals of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai to Arambai Tenggol, Unit 27 (QRT) .
On further investigation, it was revealed that the missing person was mentally unsound and dumb person.
A police team raided the camp of Arambai Tenggol located at Thiyam Leishangkhong on June 15 and arrested three Arambai Tenggol members identified as Huidrom Somokanta (26) of Yumnam Huidrom Khunyai Leikai, Thingujam Ratanjit (26) s/o Rupachandra of Yumnam Huidrom Khunyai Leikai and Huidrom Dipak (27) s/o Kullabidhu of Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai.
After the completion of their police custody period, they were remanded to judicial custody on June 23 till July 5 .
The APP further submitted that Heikrujam Prafullo was arrested first on June 15 and five more accused were arrested on 16 June in a follow up action.
On interrogation, the arrested persons disclosed that Longjam Khaba had beaten the victim to death and dumped the dead body with the help of his associates.
Thus police were able to recover the dead body of the victim from the bank of Nambul River at Samurou Makha Naorem and also recovered weapons/tools used in dumping the dead body.
To reconstruct the sequence of crime and corroborate the disclosure made by other accused persons with the statement of the prime accused, they are required in police custody, the APP said and prayed for remanding the main accused in police custody for eight days and the other accused for further four days The Court, after hearing the submission of the APP, defence counsels and on perusal of the case record, remanded the alleged main accused in police custody till June 30 and the six other alleged accused till June 26.Notably, police have arrested 10 persons including seven Arambai Tenggol members and three civilians in connection with the case.
