AMCO decries, calls for peace, understanding

Imphal, January 23 2026: The All Manipur Christian Organization (AMCO) has expressed deep sorrow and grave concern over the unfortunate killing of Mayanglambam Rishikant Singh by unidentified assailants in Churachandpur district while visiting his Kuki-Zo fiancee.

AMCO, in a statement, said that this tragic incident, arising amid the ongoing ethnic tensions between the Meitei and Kuki communities, has caused immense pain and distress to the people of Manipur.

AMCO, as an apex Christian organization, stands firmly for peace, harmony, and coexistence in the State, irrespective of tribe, community, or religious affiliation, it said.

Condemning the murder in the strongest terms, AMCO said that the brutal and merciless killing of an innocent civilian by an underground armed group was inhuman, unethical, and unacceptable under any circumstances.

The people of Manipur have witnessed a period of relative peace and ceasefire over the past few years.

In this context, the sudden occurrence of such violent episodes is deeply disturbing and poses a serious threat to the fragile peace and to all ongoing efforts aimed at achieving an amicable and lasting solution to the prolonged ethnic conflict that has persisted since May 2023, AMCO said.

Saying that that violence only deepens mistrust, prolongs suffering, and undermines the prospects for reconciliation, AMCO appealed to all communities, civil society organizations, and authorities concerned to exercise utmost restraint, uphold the sanctity of human life, and work collectively towards restoring peace and normalcy in the State.

Praying for the bereaved family, AMCO said that it remains committed to organising and supporting peaceful initiatives, dialogue, and constructive strategies aimed at resolving the ongoing crisis through non-violent and inclusive means.

AMCO urged all stakeholders to choose the path of peace, understanding, and justice, for the sake of future generations and the unity of Manipur.
