Imphal, November 22: With the dual objective of promoting quality education and prepare HSLC candidates of Government recognised schools, sessional examinations conducted by the respective institutions began from today.

According to informed source, such examination being conducted for the first time among private institutions is the brainchild of All Manipur Recognised Private School Welfare Association under the guidelines of Board of Secondary Education.

There are 180 schools under the Association.

Moreover, aim of conducting such common sessional examination is to streamline examination procedures of private schools in view of the institutions following their own academic calendar apart from different period of summer breaks, explained the source.

Stating that plans are afoot to felicitate candidates culling highest mark in this common examination and selected teachers honoured with incentives during the Private School Day celebration held on every August 19, the source disclosed of necessary procedures being made to include students of Govt schools in the examination rigours from the next academic session.

On the other hand, the private school body�s advisor S Manaoton observed that pass percentage of candidates appearing in non-BSEM board examinations like CBSE/NIOS at hill district centres has been recording a steady rise.

This trend is due to excessive flocking of candidates at hill district NIOS/CBSE centres as volunteers of student organisations and NGOs concerned have been strictly monitoring conduct of examination in the valley district centres, asserted the advisor.

He claimed that around 4000 students of the State enrol for appearance in CBSE exams annually with another 3000 candidates seeking admission for NIOS examinations in the X standard and added that if similar trend persists there would be significant depletion of candidates opting for BSEM or COHSEM conducted examinations.

mulling that high mark accretion system of CBSE examinations, adoption of newer syllabus to suit certain compulsion etc might be added factors for State students preferring non-BSEM/COHSEM exams, Manaoton affirmed that relevant authorities would be consulted to make some radical syllable and marking presentation changes.

He also capitalised the media interaction programme to prevail upon NGOs and student bodies to shake off their (bodies) misperception and insistence for unbearable donation amount from private educational institutions.

For any justifiable cause schools under the Association are most willing to contribute donation, he pledged.

Private schools were not set up with the objective of making financial gains, he clarified and urged all concerned to remember that standard of education in Manipur is being set by private institutions.

Informing that the common sessional examination will be held till December 4, the Association advisor further confided that prior to evaluation of answer scripts the Association in consultation and guidance of BSEM would conduct a teachers� workshop in January next.
