Imphal, October 22 2024:
A team of NPP National Committee would be arriving here shortly to collect a first hand account of the growing discord among NPP legislators and the party's State executive committee members on the question of whether the party should keep on supporting the BJP Government in Manipur or to withdraw support.
At the advice of NPP National president and Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, a five-member team of NPP National Committee led by the party's National general secretary (organisation) James Sangma will land at Imphal airport at 9.30 am on Wednesday.
The other members of the team are NPP Kerala State president KT Thomas, NPP Arunachal Pradesh president Paknga Bage, NPP Youth Front National president Nicky Nongkhlaw and NPP National general secretary Abhaya Kashyap.
NPP National vice-president Yumnam Joykumar will brief the team on the current law and order and political situation of Manipur at Hotel Classic Grande at 10.30 am tomorrow.
The team would interact with NPP legislators of Manipur on the current law and order and political situation of Manipur from 11.15 am to 12.15 pm.
The team led by James Sangma will hold another interaction session with the NPP Manipur executive members from 2.30 pm to 5 pm.
On October 24, the team would interact with senior citizens and intellectuals from 9 am onward till 11.30 am on the protracted Manipur crisis and what they want the NPP to do to ameliorate the crisis.
The NPP National team would also interact with members of NPP committees of different Assembly segments on strengthening the party, sources said.
During their two-day visit to Imphal, the NPP National team is set to deliberate minutely with the State's NPP MLAs, executive committee members and office bearers on whether the party should keep on supporting the BJP Government or withdraw support.
Reports filed by the team about the visit to Imphal would be discussed with NPP National president Conrad Sangma, said the sources.
However, one NPP MLA told The Sangai Express that the NPP National team's visit is basically about strengthening the party in Manipur and it has nothing to do with the question of whether NPP should go on supporting the BJP Government or withdraw its support.
The NPP National team would leave Imphal for Guwahati at 5 pm on October 24, said the sources.
