Senapati, September 22 2026: The Naga Women's Union (NWU) has expressed grave concern over the killings, continued attacks and firing, as well as the destruction of properties and burning of houses in Naga villages along the IT Road and other Naga villages across the State.

In a statement, the NWU said that even on September 21, 2026, the International Day of Peace, the principles of peace and non-violence were tragically violated by the killing of NK Wiphenbou, a Class XI student, allegedly by Kuki armed militants.

The Union expressed deep concern over the alleged concentration and heavy engagement of Kuki armed groups along the IT Road, which had created an increasingly dangerous environment for civilians facing the immediate consequences of the violence.

It stated that multiple attacks and ambushes by armed Kuki groups had taken place while Naga villagers were compelled to protect their homes and communities from immediate threats.

Saying that over a dozen innocent people have been brutally killed in this area, the NWU added that the concentration of armed Kuki groups in the region, along with the frequency of attacks, ambushes and burning of houses that have caused displacement, should be addressed at the highest level.

The NWU stated that its appeal to the Government for protection should not be viewed as a sign of weakness.

When civilians are under attack, seeking protection from the State is a legitimate and responsible democratic action, it reasoned.

The Union maintained that the Government has a responsibility to protect civilians and prevent armed groups from threatening the lives and security of innocent people.

The NWU therefore urged the Government to act immediately to protect civilians along the IT Road and prevent further attacks and displacement.

The Union also called for decisive intervention from the Government to prevent further escalation of the conflict and bloodshed and to create necessary conditions for the safety and security of civilians.
