CCpur, September 22 2020: With Churachandpur police confirming an inside hand in the SBI ATM money heist sending shockwaves across the district, some people early today tried to attack the residence of one of the accused at Khuga Tampak forcing the local administration to impose curfew at the locality to restrict any form of public movement outside their residence.

The police late last night divulged some more details on their investigation saying the involvement of the deceased's co-workers identified as V Thangkhamuan (40) son of (L) V Tunkhokam of V Munhoih village; K Romen Singh (36) son of K Achouba Singh of Khuga Tampak Zouveng; and Khongkham Brojen Singh (40) son of (L) K Sahen Singh, a resident of Bamon Kampu, Imphal East has been established.

Earlier the three individuals employed with Writers Safeguard Group (WSG) were held as suspects in the murder of their co-worker Arambam Ranjan, a resident of Khuga Tampak, Zouveng and looting a booty of about Rs 1.15 crore.

Soon the police unearthed their involvement in siphoning off Rs 2 crore (not 5 crores as reported in today's issue) worth of ATM money in the past 5 years.

The WSG was sub-contracted by SBI for cash management at their ATMs.

As today's papers carried the stories on the new development in the police investigation, several residents gathered at Khuga Tampak and tried to storm the residence of one of the accused.

CSO leaders from the locality and the local police intervened and subsequently managed to thwart any untoward incident.

The District Magistrate too acted swiftly to tackle the situation and immediately imposed section 144 CrPC to restrict any form of public movement within the whole area of Khuga Tampak.

The police last night claimed that the robbery was planned by one of the three suspects and was executed by the other two.

They have also recovered a gun believed to have been used in committing the crime.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated development, 33 AR arrested one Seiminthang Gangte alias Alex Gangte son of Lalthanmawi of Chehlei village, NC Hills, Assam in the general area of Kholmun village yesterday.

The arrested individual is said to be an active hardcore member of LTT (non-SoO) faction.

He was produced before the Magistrate and the police have obtained 7 days custody.
