Chandel, Kakching observe 11th International Day of Yoga

Around 100 students, members of Van Dhan Vikash Kendra SHGs, Assam Rifles personnel and Forest Department staff gathered to observe the 11th International Day of Yoga at the multipurpose hall of Chandel DC Office Complex yesterday.
The event was held under the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health" in the presence of Dr N Munal Meitei, Divisional Forest Officer, Chandel.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr N Munal Meitei said that the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health" teaches people to safeguard the environment just as they would take care of their own health.
Yoga, which originated in India, has now been adopted by 193 countries in recognition of its benefits in maintaining a healthy life, said the Chandel Divisional Forest Officer.
He added that Yoga also helps to reduce blood pressure and blood sugar, improve body flexibility and help treat body and joint pain and arthritis.
In view of its health benefits, he urged people to practice Yoga at least 15/20 minutes per day and plant trees to save the environment.
The 11th International Day of Yoga was also celebrated across the length and breadth of Kakching district yesterday.
The Kakching District Yogasana Sports Association, Kakching in alliance with Indian Red Cross Society, Kakching District Branch organised a "Flagship Signature Event: Yoga Sangam" at the Multipurpose Community Hall, Kakching Mayai.
The flagship event was attended by Rohit Anand (IAS), Kakching Deputy Commissioner and president, IRCS Kakching District Branch; Naorem Sanjitkumar, Caretaker Chairperson, Kakching Municipal Council; Moirangthem Manihar, vice-president, IRCS Kakching District Branch; Dr Mayanglambam Rajkumar, Chairman, IRCS Kakching District Branch; Kshetrimayum Dharmadas, president, Kakching District Yogasana Sports Association and Naorem Ibomcha, president, Kakching District Yogasana Sports Association as the presidium members.
Speaking as the chief guest, Rohit Anand encouraged the gathering to practice Yoga daily and not merely on Yoga Day.
He said that daily practice can offer many physical and mental benefits, such as improved strength, balance and stress reduction.
The event was sponsored by the Central Council for Research in Yoga and Naturopathy, Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.
Separately, Kha Manipur Yoga and Nature Cure Association, Kakching in collaboration with Healing Point-Integrated Rehabilitation Centre For Addicts (IRCA) and Phidam, IRCA, Kakching observed International Yoga Day with the inmates at the respective centres.
Funded by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, the ceremonies held at the two centres located at Kakching Chumnang Machin Manao Ching witnessed the participation of Mayanglambam Rajkumar, secretary, Kha Manipur Yoga and Nature Cure Association.
Additionally, Kakching Municipal Council also observed the 11th IYD at the conference hall of Kakching Municipal Council with the participation of Kakching Municipal Council Caretaker Chairperson Naorem Shanjitkumar, Kakching Municipal Council Senior Chief Executive Officer Thokchom Siddartha, Caretaker Councillors and sanitary workers of Kakching Municipal Council.
Lastly, Jivan Hospital jointly celebrated Yoga Day with Yengkhom Netramani College of Nursing and Yengkhom Netramani College of Paramedical Sciences (YNCOPS) in Kakching at the auditorium of the hospital located at Kakching Lamdong.
Students of the colleges along with Dr Y Ashokumar, Managing Director, Jivan Hospital participated in the celebration.
