Imphal, October 20: The All Manipur United Clubs� Organisation (AMUCO) has started distributing relief materials to flood affected people of Thongju, Kyamgei, Langthabal, Chajing and Haoreibi since yesterday.

It is reported that AMUCO will continue providing relief materials to the flood victims.

The AMUCO has been providing rice, dal, alum, candles and drinking water to the flood affected people. The civil society also provided bamboo mats, bamboo etc to fight flood at Hatta Golapati, KR Lane and Dimdailong on October 17 before Imphal river bank got breached at Kymagei section.

The All Manipur Students� Union (AMSU) has also distributed relief materials to the victims of flood caused by a breach along Imphal river bank at Kyamgei today.

A team of AMSU volunteers led by its president Khamba Laishram distributed rice, edible salt and candles to the flood victims at some places in Kyamgei and Thongju.

Speaking to reporters during distribution of relief materials today, Khamba expressed grief at the havoc caused by flood and alleged negligence of the Government and failure to strengthen embankments in time as largely responsible for the flash flood.

Assuring that AMSU will extend more relief materials, he said that AMSU will urge the Government to avail medical facilities to the flood victims.

Meanwhile, Adventure Academy of Manipur (ADAM) in collaboration with Department of Youth Affairs and Sports has been undertaking rescue and relief operations in flood affected areas of Thongju Part II and MU campus.

Altogether one motor boat and four rubber rafts are being used in transporting relief materials and evacuating students from MU men�s hostel, informed an ADAM release adding that the relief operation will continue.

In conjunction with the relief operation, Innovative Youths, RIMS Road, in collaboration with YAS Department and ADAM, has been providing medical treatment and medicines.

On the other hand, the Kyamgei Development Committee which has been helping flood victims by opening a relief camp at Kyamgei Mayai Leikai (near the bridge) has denounced the alleged lackadaisical attitude of the State Government.

While acknowledging that some quantity of rice, dal etc, though in insufficient, have been provided by the State Government, Committee president Khaidem Ibohanbi said that drinking water, medical facilities, vaccination of domestic animals and post-flood sanitary and disinfection measures are the urgent requirements of the flood victims.

Above this, the displaced people are facing acute shortage of tarpaulins, clothes and most important kerosene oil, he observed.

Meanwhile, MEIRAA Bashikhong has extended sincere gratitude for the assistance provided by AMUCO, Indian Red Cross Society, DESAM, PHED and others towards the relief camp being opened at Bashikhong.

Considering the continued inclement weather and plight of those still unable to return back to their homes, MEIRAA sought more assistance and relief materials from all quarters.
