Imphal, October 15 2025:
The Relief Committee Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), Porompat, Imphal East, is set to submit an appeal to the President of India, seeking urgent intervention in the management and functioning of the institute amid the President's Rule.
The memorandum, the committee said, will be submitted to the President if the Governor's administration under PR fails to take steps to address the issues that have plagued the JNIMS Hospital.
The committee expressed serious concern that the present administration under the President's Rule has ignored and neglected the Government healthcare institutions including the JNIMS Hospital.
It underscored that this neglect has adversely affected the State's healthcare sector.
The JNIMS Hospital, one of the premier healthcare institutions, serves patients from across Manipur, it said.
The committee highlighted that the JNIMS at present is facing severe administrative lapses, shortage of staff and modem medical equipment and infrastructure.
The committee further pointed out that the roads leading to the JNIMS Hospital have been severely damaged by the floods in 2024 and 2025.Without any steps taken up to repair, the severely damaged roads leading to JNIMS have caused significant difficulties to commuters and patients in reaching the hospital, the committee said.
The Governor's administration should take up immediate steps to repair the roads within a one-kilometre radius of JNIMS, it said.
If these issues are not addressed, the committee said, it will formally appeal to the President, highlighting the failure of the current administration under the President's Rule to take its responsibilities seriously in the State's health sector.
