Women protest abduction of civilians

Imphal, May 14 2026:
Members of various women groups staged a sit-in protest at Kanglatongbi Bazar this afternoon demanding immediate and unconditional release of 18 hostages allegedly taken by Kuki militants from Leilon Vaiphei village yesterday.
During the protest, organised by the Koubrou Range Liangmai Women's Union, the demonstrators held placards and raised slogans demanding urgent intervention from both the Central and the State Governments to secure safe release of all hostages.
The 18 Naga civilians including a 2-year-old girl were abducted and taken hostage by suspected Kuki militants from Leilon Vaiphei village yesterday.
During the demonstration, the protesters condemned the abduction of civilians and urged the Government to take swift actions to free the hostages.
"The Government must immediately take swift actions and secure the safe release of all hostages.
It must also take appropriate actions to prevent escalation of violence in the State," said a protester.
