Potential of North East 2024, an expo dedicated to textiles, handicraft and other products from the North Eastern States was opened today at the Constitution Club of India, Rafi Marg New Delhi.
Three coats tailored out of three well known traditional fabrics of Manipur viz; Leirum Phi, Shaphi Lanphi and Naga shawl, were launched at the event.
The expo being organised by PHD Chamber of Commerce ad Industries will conclude on September 14.The opening function was graced by Lok Sabha Member from Assam Jyoti Basumatary, PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industries deputy secretary general Dr Jatinder Singh and PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industries resident director Bibhuti Dutt as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
The idea of making coats out of Leirum Phi, Shaphi Lanphi and Naga shawl was conceptualised by North East Women Entrepreneurs Association president Kangabam Vijaya Chanu.
The coats were designed by Basant LK Enterprises proprietor Basant Lukram.
It is said that applications have been submitted for copyright protection of the three unique coats.
Kangabam Vijaya said that the main purpose of producing coats from the three well known traditional textiles of Manipur is to promote and market the State's handloom and other products in different parts of the world.
She also gave a detailed account of the historical backgrounds of the three traditional textiles and the special occasions where these textiles were used.
