EYOL dwells on impact on society

A public convention on the "impacts of lifestyle changes on social economy" was held at Yaingangpokpi Bazar community hall, Imphal East today.
Speaking to the gathering, Enat Yokkhatpa Luptin (EYOL) general secretary Mayengbam Dhanajoy said outside influence on the culture and tradition have brought changes in the behaviour of the society.
The influence from outside specially has brought changes in the lifestyle of the youths and the society as a whole, affecting the social economy, he said.
Giving examples, he said, there has emerged a trend of competition in weddings, Ningol Chakkouba and other ceremonies In wedding, people are spending money extravagantly on decoration.
Such extravagant spending of money hurts the culture, tradition as well as the social economy, he added.
To check such unwanted influences and trends, each locality should take strong resolutions.
People should celebrate Ningol Chakkouba and all other festivals and rituals in a simple but meaningful way, he said.
He also encouraged people to buy products made locally during festivities to improve the local economy and limit drain of wealth.
The convention was organised by the Meira Paibis and clubs of Yaingangpokpi, Santikhongbal, Thamnapokpi.
Sanasabi and Sabungkhok Khunou under the aegis of Enat Yokkhatpa Luptin (EYOL).
EYOL vice president Longjamcha Sanathoi Piba, Yaingangpokpi Lamjing Nupi Lup president Khongbantabam Modhubala and Yaingangpokpi Village Committee's assistant secretary Thokchom Amul Meitei and representatives of and many other organisations took part in the convention.
