Imphal, September 11: On alleged charge of swindling money from people including students by its director apart from and not being a registered body, Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has announced indefinite closure of the Imphal co-office of the Indian Institute of Medical Representative (IIMR) located along Sega Road at Thouda Bhavok Leikai.

Talking to mediapersons in this connection at its Keishampat head office here this afternoon, assistant general secretary of DESAM SM Ahsan informed that the director of the Imphal co-office of IIMR identified as Chandam Bimol Singh s/o Chandam Phulendro of Malom Mamang Leikai and his wife Chandam Ongbi Guruaribam Ningol Bidya Devi, who is the managing director employed 13 persons including five women to run the office, which was set up on January 3 this year, after making them to deposit Rs 20,000 to 50,000. However, after February and March, none of the employees have been paid their salary and the director and the managing director of the office denied the request of refunding the deposited amount even if the employees want to resign.

Over and above this, the couple had taken Rs 15,000 to Rs 18,000 from each of the students admitted for the three-month long medical representative course as donation.

But certificates have not yet been issued to the students who have completed their courses.

The assistant general secretary of DESAM further pointed that Indian Institute of Medical Representative (IIMR) is not an Institute affiliated to the University Grant Commission (UGC) and All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).

Subsequently, on May 3 this year, Delhi Police had not only ban the institute but its director SK Singh arrested and lodged in the jail after a registering a case.

DESAM has asked the director and the managing director of the co-office at Imphal to refund the amount taken the employees and students.
