Imphal, August 11 2024:
The 1.5 Km long road from Tangkhul Baptist Church, Lamphelpat to Shija Hospital has become a nightmare for a large number of people including patients.
The road leading to a hospital should be a road of hope and recovery but the road leading to Shija Hospital is proving otherwise.
With the road filled with potholes and now flooded at different points, a patient who was being taken to Shija Hospital from RIMS Hospital after suffering a heart attack at around 7 pm on Saturday died on the way, according to a press release issued by the Manipur International Youth Centre (MIYC) .
Every time there is little rainfall, the road gets flooded up to the level of knee.
The 300 metres long section from Tangkhul Baptist Church to the Home Guard Commandant's office is the worst section.
As there are big potholes under the water, the road is now posing a serious risk to the people travelling on the road, particularly during night, the MIYC said.
There have been several cases of people travelling to Shija Hospital stumbling and tripping on the road resulting in fractured limbs and loss of mobile phones, it said.
The MIYC pointed out that the particular road is a lifeline for Shija Hospital, its medical college, National Institute of Technology (NIT), Sewerage Treatment Plant, Games Village and surrounding villages.
It then urged the Government to elevate the road by at least three feet and construct it as a four-lane road at the earliest.
