Imphal, June 10 2016 :
Endorsing the popular demand for enactment of a Constitutional safeguard for protection of the indigenous people of Manipur, the Nongchup Imphal Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (NIMPAL) has decided to seal all shops run by non-local people in Imphal West district from tomorrow.
Speaking to media persons at the Keishampat office of NIPCO this afternoon, NIMPAL president Laishram Gyaneshori said that NIMPAL would continue supporting the mass movement being spearheaded by JCILPS.
Declaration of former JCILPS convenor Khomdram Ratan as a wanted man with a reward of Rs five lakh for information leading to his arrest is unacceptable to NIMPAL, she said.
She also condemned the arrest of students in the course of the agitation.
Any agitation launched by NIMPAL would not cover religious functions, medical service, water supply, power and other essential services.
Saying that there would no blockading of roads and closure of markets, Gyaneshori appealed to all the agitators not to resort to any form of violence which can project the popular movement in the wrong light.
She also demanded the Government to revoke the declaration that Ratan is a wanted man.
The Government can never suppress the popular movement by arresting students and leaders of the movement, she added.
