Imphal, March 09 2025:
Former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today asserted that opposing parties' presence in the State and Centre will not hinder progress.
He made the statement during a reception ceremony held in honour of Lok Sabha MP Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam at Khagempalli Huidrom Leikai under Keishamthong Constituency today.
Addressing the function, Ibobi continued that the Congress party's ability to ensure progress and development in Manipur, if returned to power, won't be hindered by the presence of a different party at the National level.
Some individuals have been spreading false information that the Congress party won't be able to implement development projects in Manipur as long as the BJP is in power at the Centre, Ibobi said.
Saying that people of Manipur won't fall prey to such misinformation and political tactics aimed at undermining the Congress party, the former Chief Minister added that there was Congress Government in Manipur from 2002 to 2004 and from 2014 to 2016 when BJP was in power at the Centre.
The BJP Government at the Centre never withheld funds for Manipur when the Congress party was in power here, Ibobi said and maintained that the Congress Government successfully implemented various developmental projects despite differences in ruling parties at the State and Central levels.
He added that former Chief Minister N Biren, however, was unable to mount pressure on the Centre and convene an all political party meeting despite the BJP's strong presence in both the State and National levels.
Ibobi, meanwhile, praised Dr Bimol, describing him as a valuable asset to the Congress party.
He said that AICC also takes the MP representing Inner Manipur very seriously.
Saying that the Congress party is fortunate to have Dr Bimol as its MP, Ibobi continued that the MP has also gained widespread acceptance of the people.
Dr Bimol, on the other hand, said that he doesn't want New Delhi to dictate the State's politics.
No politician from Manipur should remain silent if the Centre's policies are going to harm the interest of the State and her people, the MP said.
Inflation is highest today in Manipur across the country, he pointed out, adding that the crisis has taken a heavy toll on the people of Manipur.
Saying that Manipur has been witnessing significant challenges on its territorial integrity since 2001, the MP maintained that a far-sighted vision is needed to protect the State.
Khundrakpam AC MLA Th Lokeshwar and former Minister L Jayantakumar also attended the programme among others.
