Imphal, November 08, 2008:
Questioning the achievement claim by the Congress led SPF Government in the last seven years, MPP Legislature Wing leader O Joy asserted that there has been no progress/change during the said period under SPF Government as huge amounts of fund have been allegedly swindled before reaching the people.
O Joy was speaking at the inaugural function of MPP Sugnu Kendra Committee office at Kakching Khunou Bazar today.
He observed that the people of Manipur have been reeling under severe hardships as a result of seven years' of continuous rule by the Congress led SPF Government.
He went on to compare the seven years' of SPF rule to the historic Seven Years' Devastation.
Several distressing factors like high rate of inflation including rice which now reportedly costs Rs 22 per kg notwithstanding the fact that it is the harvesting season, the rising rate of crime and violence and the looming threat to the territorial integrity of Manipur which had been voiced in the Parliament have put the people under a tense and highly insecure situation, Joy said.
He further observed that it's time for the people to delve into the cause for the lurking fear about possible disintegration of Manipur .
Even as huge amounts of money have been sanctioned by the Centre for development of Manipur, very little percentage of the funds actually reach the people, Joy surmised that under the Congress led SPF Government people see no change or development but ensure hardships and insecurity.
Other than the change of some Ministers and Ministers turning to super rich individuals, people see no change, he asserted.
Present day Ministers take the multiple roles of contractors, engineers and also issue cheques.
Under such circumstances, only the relatives and families of Ministers get benefited at the cost of the common mass.
Observing that several faux pas and unscrupulous mistakes committed by politicians of the State have put Manipur in a very critical condition even threatening the existence of Manipuri nation, the MPP leader asserted that the people should wake up and strive for change.
To bring about a positive change, MPP should be blessed, he added.
If the people are determined to save the Manipuri nation from the imminent possibility of becoming refugees, it's time for the people to shoulder due responsibilities collectively.
Calling upon the people to live with dignity, Joy expressed MPP's desire to set up a Government having different perspectives and objectives.
Addressing the function, MPP youth front president Binod drew attention of the party leaders and MLAs saying that Kakching Khunou people did not get PDS items in time and there was no proper facility for potable water and electricity.
The inaugural function was also addressed by MPP president Dr L Chandramani, MLA Dr Ng Bijoy, former Union Minister Th Chaoba and Dr Nimaichand Luwang.
They appealed to the people not to cast their votes in favour of the candidate who would become a party to conspiracies aimed at disintegrating Manipur in the forthcoming Parliamentary elections.
