'Extend 4 % reservations for OBC (MP) to higher education and other non professional courses'

Imphal, August 08 2021: The All Manipur Muslim Students Organisation (AMMSO) urged the State Government to extend 4 percent reservations for OBC (MP) to higher education and other non professional courses starting from the current academic session 2021-2022.In a press release, AMMSO stated that as per a written agreement between AMMSO and the then Government on December 27, 2006, it was agreed on extending 4 percent reservations to OBC (MP) to professional courses and Government services and the same has actually been carried on till date unfortunately the higher education and other professional courses were excluded from the said reservation policy.

Such an exclusion has caused major hindrances to Meitei Pangals who are aspire to pursue higher education and other non professional and it has been a stumbling block in the path of development and upliftment process of Meitei Pangals who are socially and economically backward as compared to other communities in the State, added the statement.

AMMSO further warned that if there is no positive response from the Government regarding their demand, it will be forced to take up democratic protests with the support from the public.

The student body also condemned the ignorance attitude of the Meitei Pangal MLAs on the matter and stated that such an attitude proves that they are against the welfare of the students.

AMMSO urged the current Government to take up immediate measures regarding the matter considering the sentiments of the students and their aspirations failing which the Meitei Pangal community will give a befitting response in the upcoming State Assembly Election.

Lastly AMMSO sought the cooperation and support of the public towards the cause.
