Imphal, May 08 2023: Claiming that it was the lapses on the part of the State Government and the Home Department which led to the clashes among the people in Manipur, the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra has asked why there was delay in transferring several displaced people at relief camps in sensitive areas to safer locations.

Addressing a press briefing at Congress Bhavan today, the MPCC chief further asked why the State Government and the Home Department were not able to control the conflict among the people on time and vandalisation of private as well public properties.

He went on to ask whether the Intelligence team didn't receive any information about the likelihood of the civil unrest to take place in Manipur in advance.

Continuing that many people have lost their properties including houses and family members in the conflict, Meghachandra maintained that there were lapses in maintaining law and order in Manipur.

Further stating that the relief works initiated by the Government is not satisfying, the MPCC chief asked why the Manipur Government is not implementing the suggestions given by different political parties during the meeting of May 6 .

Notably, one of the resolutions taken during the all political party meeting was to form a peace committee in every Constituency to implement peace initiatives at the grassroots level.

Why is the State Government not able to evacuate the people taking shelter at relief camps in sensitive areas to safer locations when over 14,000 Central security forces have already been sent to Manipur, Meghachandra asked and accused the State Government of being irresponsible.

The MPCC then reminded the Government that occupants of the relief camps include students, children and sick persons.

Further asking why the State Government is not making public the status of imposition of Article 355 in Manipur, K Meghachandra alleged that the recent statement of Security Advisor to the State Government Kuldiep Singh who stated that there was no question of invoking the part of emergency provisions in the State has confused the masses.

It's not the time to take political mileage but why didn't the State Government implement the suggestion given by the Congress party during the all political party meeting to evacuate the people taking shelter at Churachandpur, Imphal, Moreh and other sensitive areas within 24 hours on May 6, he added.

What measures has the Government taken up for the people including students from other States stranded in Manipur given the considerable rise in the price of airline tickets, the MPCC asked.

He went on to ask what initiative the Government has taken up to check the price hike and depletion of essential commodities in Manipur.

Lastly, the MPCC appealed to the people of Manipur to exercise restraint so as to save Manipur from further violence.
