Imphal, August 07 2026:
A day after employees staged a sit-in protest, the office of the Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) at Khuman Lampak Sports Campus has been locked, demanding the Government to revoke appointment of an MCS officer as the Joint Director.
Spearheaded by the YAS Employees Association, agitating employees also locked District YAS offices today.
Notably, the stir was triggered by an order of the Government issued on July 27 which appointed an MCS officer as the Joint Director of the Directorate of YAS .
During a sit-in protest demonstration at the Khuman Lampak office yesterday, the employees' association had alleged that the appointment was made against the rules.
By the department's recruitment rules, the Joint Director should be held by an internal cadre on promotion.
The appointment of the MCS officer has deprived eligible staff of the opportunity and demoralised them, the association had said yesterday.
It had also warned that the employees may intensify the stir unless the Government revokes
the July 27 order.
