Tangkhul CSOs detail rescue works

A quick response team set up by Tangkhul CSOs in view of the grave flood situation rescued as many as 1623 people from Nagaram, Fairyland, Tangkhul Avenue, Dewlahland, Mantripukhri (Mercy Lane) and Keirang between May 29 and June 5 .
The team was established under the initiative of Tangkhul Shanao Long Imphal (TSLI), Tangkhul Katamnao Long Imphal (TKLI) and Union Tangkhul Baptist Churches Imphal (UTBCI), Imphal.
According to a statement, 560 people were placed at 2 temporary relief camps, 322 with relatives and friends, 81 stayed at guest houses, 320 went back to their villages, 63 went back to Ukhrul, 150 availed free bus services and 63 volunteered at the relief transit camp.
The All Tangkhul Medicos Association (ATMA) have also opened a medical counter for flood relief giving first aid and medicines to those in need at the relief camp at TBCI, Dewlahland.
The response team has expressed gratitude to the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), Paramilitary Forces, Indian Armies, Assam Rifles, CRPF, Imphal East District Administration, State Police, Govt departments, valley based organizations and individuals who responded positively and took action to help the stranded people.
Various donations in terms of monetary aid, medicines and other essential items for the flood affected individuals/families were extended to the response team.
Altogether 29 CSOs and Churches came forward to provide aid to the flood victims.
In addition, individuals including Ministers, MLAs, Tangkhul bureaucrats, and individuals outside the State have also extended help.
Government departments including Imphal West PHED, Imphal East PHED, Imphal East District Administration (SDO & Relief), Directorate of Health Services (DHS), Lamphel Police (SP team) and CMO, Imphal East District also made significant contributions in the relief and aid initiative.
