Imphal, October 06 2025:
The dilapidated section of Mayai Lambi (road) from Khagempalli to Pishumthong was blocked by locals today, forcing the Public Works Department to deploy its personnel and workers to start repairing potholes.
While locals including womenfolk held placards and blocked the road at all intersections, the Public Works Department officials and workers rushed to the site with machinery and started filling potholes.
Noticing inadequate machinery and materials brought by the PWD, the locals resolved that the road will be blocked to all vehicles until the Department deploys all necessary equipment and materials and sincerely repairs the road.

The locals of the area including Meira Paibis closed the road from Khagempalli to Pishumthong starting at 8.30 am.
Neglected and ignored for quite a long time, the section of Mayai Lambi is filled with large potholes and broken in many places.
Due to the pathetic condition of the road, many motor accidents have occurred and the dust from the road has posed a risk to the health of the locals, said the Meira Paibis.
After receiving information about the road being shut down, the Public Works Department sent its officials to the site at around 10.30 am.
Assuring that the road would be repaired, the officials urged the locals to suspend the stir and open the road to all vehicles.
The locals, on the other hand, declared that the road will remain closed until it is repaired and blacktopped.
The public demand forced the PWD officials to immediately deploy its personnel, machinery and workers on the site and start repairing the road.
The locals, however, noticed that the machinery, equipment and materials brought on the site weren't adequate to repair the road.
This then forced the locals to continue the blockade.
"Until adequate equipment and materials are brought in and the road is fully repaired, the stir will continue.
The road will remain closed to all vehicles," the locals have said.
Bamboos, benches, ropes and other obstacles were used to block the road.
It affected traffic and forced all vehicles to ply on alternate routes.
Vendors, locals including womenfolk of Ningom Leirak, Oinam Leikai, Nongthombam Leikai, Huidrom Leikai, Khagempalli and adjoining areas took part in the stir.
