Disqualification case of MLAs
'Verdict will be declared as per convenience'

Imphal, July 06 2026: Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Th Satyabrata has stated that the verdicts of the disqualification cases of the five MLAs who joined BJP after election on JD(U) tickets will be announced as per convenience.

The Speaker made this statement in reply to queries raised by media persons at the inauguration of Ima Yumjao Lairembi's Maibi Shanglen at Yumnam Leikai today.

Satyabrata maintained that he would not pass any comment now regarding the final judgements of the disqualification cases which are being kept reserved at the Speaker's Tribunal.

He said that appropriate actions will be taken at the right time regarding the reserved judgements.

As of now, there is no concrete answer to the judgements, he said.

Notably, six candidates got elected in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly elections held in 2022 on JD-U tickets.

Out of them, five MLAs - Kh Joykisan (Thangmeiband AC), Thangjam Arunkumar (Wangkhei AC), Ngursanglur Sanate (Tipaimukh AC), LM Khaute (Churachandpur AC), and Md Achab Uddin (Jiribam AC) joined BJP, leaving only Md Abdul Nasir (Lilong AC) with JD-U.Later, petitions were filed against the five MLAs seeking their disqualification under the anti-defection law.

After several rounds of hearing, the Speaker's Tribunal reserved the judgements on February 7, 2025 .

The Maibi Shanglen inaugurated today was constructed by Th Satyabrata.
