Imphal, May 06 2023: Six student bodies including DESAM, KSA, MSF, AIMS and SUK have urged safe evacuation of stranded people and victims from all conflict hit places.

At the office of Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) at Wangkhei in the evening today, DESAM president Leishangthem Lamyanba Meetei said the evacuation process being taken up by the authorities concerned should be neutral and unbiased in nature.

Explaining, he said, evacuating stranded people from Imphal area only and excluding the people stranded in Churachandpur, Moreh and other places from the evacuation process may trigger anger among the people.

He said the Government and the authorities concerned should treat all stranded people equally and provide equal assistance.

The evacuation process should be unbiased, safe and secure, he said adding the six student bodies are prepared to assist in all possible ways for safe evacuation of all.

Lamyanba also informed that the student bodies have also initiated talks with some hill based student bodies for safe evacuation of all the people.

On deployment of security personnel, he said that the forces deployed in all sensitive areas should not take sides and stay neutral.

He also appealed to all organisations and institutions in Manipur and outside to collectively work towards bringing normalcy and peace.

On the other hand, North East Students' Organisation (NESO) has shared that it will extend all possible help to ensure that students from outside Manipur return to their home States safely.

Towards this end NESO has written to the Civil Aviation Ministry to use chartered flights to ferry the stranded students.

The statement was made by Wangjam Sanatomba, assistant general secretary, NESO while speaking to media persons during a press conference held at Keishamthong Laisom Leirak this afternoon.

He shared that NESO had safely escorted fifty students from Arunachal Pradesh studying at Saina Institute, Bishnupur to the airport and ensured their return home.

Tomorrow the organisation will aid students from Tripura studying at CAU Imphal and RIMS, Imphal to return to their home State safely, he added.

In view of the unfolding scenes of unrest in the State, the NESO assistant general secretary also advised shop keepers to refrain from hiking the prices of essential commodities and assured to monitor the situation closely.

Expressing distress over the current state of affairs, Sanatomba urged people of different communities to come together to restore peace and normalcy in the State.

Further, he highlighted the need to enforce adequate security measures along the Indo-Myanmar border areas.
