Imphal, April 06 2026: The Working Committee of the United Naga Council (WC-UNC) has reacted strongly to the indiscriminate firing unleashed by Kuki militants in the evening of Easter (April 5) from 6 pm to 11 pm, maintaining that it defiled the solemnity and sanctity of the sacred day and termed the incident "abominable and unacceptable in Christian's domain" .

The Working Committee of the United Naga Council (WC-UNC) said today that it has been keenly observing the unceasing and unprovoked attacks on the Naga villages including Litan, Shangkai, Sinakeithei, Sarkarphung and Thoyee, Ukhrul district in Manipur by the Kuki militants under Suspension of Operation (SoO), using sophisticated weapons which cause panic and unrest to the villagers raising a grave concern.

According to the UNC, the April 5 attack, which saw volleys of bullets piercing six residential buildings, is a clear example of the Kuki militants' continued aggression against the Naga people.

"Despite the Naga village guard's restraint, the Kuki militants have been orchestrating a proxy war against the Nagas, in collaboration with their master, the Ministry of Home Affairs and its forces deployed in the area", it alleged.

The WC-UNC then said it was appalled by the "inaction and complacency" of the State and Central Government, which is seen as a step-motherly treatment towards the Nagas.

The position of the Government on the prolonged road blockade enforced by the Kukis along the National Highway leading to Ukhrul is highly questionable, the UNC also said.

The SoO groups have violated the ground rules, waging a war openly, right under the nose of the armed forces, it further alleged.

The UNC said the "rationale behind the alarming Government's policy in letting loose the Kuki militants to wage war on Naga people should be questioned by the entire right thinking citizen in the country" .

Regarding the press statement issued by the "Kuki CSO Working Committee, Ukhrul" which levelled an accusation of hate speech against Rev Ramyothing Phungshok, Pastor of Sinakeithei Baptist Church (one of the affected Naga villages), the WC-UNC observed that the accusation is completely unfounded and one-sided.

The UNC demanded immediate action against Kuki militants under SoO groups "for terrorizing the Naga villagers" and called for increased security measures for the affected villages by deploying State forces.

The UNC further demanded the Government to ensure safety and security for all travelers along the highways, especially NH-202 (Imphal to Ukhrul road).

It also demanded accountability for the State and Central Governments' inaction and malafide policy.
