Claiming the responsibility for setting on fire the Namphalong bound Tata Sumo (AS 25B3357) at the parking lot near Moreh Gate No.2 at around 10.30 am of December 2, the proscribed outfit KYKL has stated that it was carried out by a special team of its armed wing, MYL for transporting Zarda inspite of the ban imposed on tobacco products.
In a statement, deputy secretary of publicity and research of the outfit Apabi Mangang said that banned tobacco products like Zarda, Khaini, etc are being smuggled in from Dimapur in Tata Trucks till Motbung and Kangpokpi from where the tobacco products are transported to other parts of Manipur in smaller vehicles.
On December 2, MYL cadres intercepted the Tata Sumo in questioned while transporting Zarda from Imphal to Moreh.
But it managed to escape from the hands of the MYL cadres by claiming that the consignment belonged to one Kuki outfit.
However, after unloading the consignment at a place in Moreh the Tata Sumo was parking when a special team of MYL came cross it and set it on fire.
It is already to the knowledge of the outfit that the Tata Sumo in questioned is being used to transport tobacco products in defiance of the ban imposed on smuggling in, selling and consumption of tobacco products, Apabi Mangang said.
