Imphal, July 03 2024:
Joychandra Konthoujam, president of United Committee Manipur (UCM), has categorically stated that the violence in Manipur has to be stopped by the Indian Government as it is their proxy war which has been keeping the State on the boil since the last 14 months.
Addressing the 24th foundation day of UCM at Lamphelpat today, Joychandra claimed that the Indian Government uses Chin-Kuki narco-terrorists to implement their proxy war in Manipur and Myanmar and the same has taken a heavy toll on the people.
He also said that only the Indian Government can end the violence in Manipur since they have allegedly taken over the power of the State's (Home) department.
The State Government can act and resolve the crisis only when the Centre hands back the power of the Home Department to Imphal, he added UCM as a conglomeration of different organisations representing the indigenous people won't remain silent when there is a threat to the unity and integrity of Manipur, Joychandra said.
He also said that UCM was formed to spearhead the movement to safeguard the territory of Manipur after the phrase 'without territorial limits' was inserted in the ceasefire agreement signed between NSCN (IM) and the Government of India in 2001 .
Saying that the stand of UCM on Manipur's integrity and communal harmony is marked by firm determination, Joychandra added that bigger communities in Manipur should respect the identity of smaller communities and refrain from scheming to absorb them into their fold.
The observance began by hoisting UCM's flag and observing 2-minute silence in honour of those who died for the cause of Manipur.
UPF president Nongthombam Rupachandra, IPSA president Maibam Bisheshwor, NIPCO president Oinam Premjit, PANDAM president Yumnamcha Dilipkumar, ACOAM-Lup Kangleipak president Soraisam Sanjit and AMKIL president Lourembam Nganbi were the presidium members of the observance function.
