Kukis found tilling Meitei farmlands

Imphal, July 02 2025: In a brazen and highly provocative case of encroachment, some Kuki men came down and started tilling paddy fields belonging to Meitei farmers at Khurkhul Maning Singjapokpi in Imphal West district under Sekmai police station at around 10.30 am today.

As Meitei people came to know about the tilling of their paddy fields by Kukis, they (Meitei farmers) informed CRPF personnel deployed in the nearby area.

Together with the villagers of Khurkhul Maning, the CRPF personnel later drove away the encroacher Kukis who came from Champhai village.

Earlier too, some Kukis started tilling the Singjapokpi paddy fields using a tractor.

When the owner of the paddy fields, a Meitei, took photographs of what the encroacher Kukis were doing, troops of 57th Mountain Division strangely detained the land owner and handed him over to Sekmai police station.
