Imphal, May 02: Accusing the Manipur University Students' Union (MUSU) of mistreating volunteers of the Manipur University Tribal Students' Union (MUTSU) during the general strike called by the latter on April 28 in MU campus, MUTSU has decided to boycott any function/programme indefinitely that may be organised by MUSU.

A press release issued by MUTSU president informed that it has also resolved not to participate in the forthcoming elections of MUSU and to extend cooperation and solidarity to the ATSUM in their course of action that may be launched in pursuit of various demands of the tribal people of Manipur.

Even as tribal student bodies like MUTSU, ATSUM etc have been struggling for fulfillment of the genuine aspirations of tribal people, there is been no cooperation or support from any other quarter showing their alleged bias against tribal interest, lamented MUTSU.

Stating that the present demand for rational reservation policy for all categories in Manipur University is a long standing issue, MUTSU asked whether the 7.5 percent reservation policy prescribed by the central Government is applicable in all situations of Indian States particularly where there is sizeable tribal population.

It asserted that the demand for separate reservation policy for States like Manipur, Meghalaya etc is justified and is based on the principle of equity.

Meanwhile, ten tribal executive members of MUSU have resigned from the posts.

In their resignation letter, a copy of which has been made available to press, the executive members accused MUSU of disregarding the genuine demands of MUTSU.
