Steps on to ensure potable water to affected folks

As an immediate response to the flood situation in the State, the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) Manipur has coordinated with the respective District Administration and various local/town committees to ensure sufficient water supply to flood affected people.
In this connection, the Department has notified the public about the emergency contact numbers of officers designated to Imphal East and Imphal West districts for the purpose of supplying water wherever required.
The flood relief measures taken up by the Department include providing water to various flood relief camps and affected areas through tankers and packaged drinking water and providing chemicals like lime, bleaching powder and alum.
In Imphal West district, four flood relief camps have been set up at Khonghampat Khunou Community Hall, Mantri Leikai Community Hall, Sekmai Parao Community Hall and Gorkha Jyoti Youth Club Kanglatongbi Hathikhuwa.
PHED has facilitated the supply of water through tankers at Khonghampat Khunou Relief Camp and supply of chemicals at Sekmai Parao Relief Camp.
In Imphal East, five relief camps have been opened at Khomidok Madrasa, Heingang Kangjeibung, Lairikyengbam Leikai, Khurai Konsam Leikai and Iphum Mapal.
Tankers are supplying water to the relief camps at Khomidok Madrasa and Heingang Kangjeibung.
According to the Department, the flood has affected many areas in Senapati district including Yaopao Colony, Angkailongdi, Viewland Colony, Church Road Colony, Hospital Bridge Colony, Bakho, Old Monday Market, Kathikho and Karong.
One relief camp has been set up at the District Council Office, which is currently providing shelter to 70 inmates.
As done in other districts, water tankers are supplying water to people in the flood affected areas of the district.
Notably, PHED is also continuously monitoring the operation of the Sewage Treatment Plant at Lamphelpat and checking for overflowing of manholes in vulnerable areas.
On another note, to address any public health concerns during the flood situation, the Directorate of Health Services has directed all Chief Medical Officers to establish Health Rapid Response Teams to visit established flood related relief camps for medical check-up and other health related activities and to make sure that all essential drugs and necessary logistics are available at the flood affected sites.
The CMOs have further been directed not to leave their respective stations and ensure continuity of health care services at all public health centres.
In addition, the Directorate of Health Services has set up a call centre 104 for any health-related grievances in flood affected sites.
