UG cadres, extortionists arrested, weapons recovered

Security forces have intensified their operations across multiple districts, conducting extensive search operations, recovering illegal weapons and explosives, apprehending suspects, and carrying out a large-scale poppy destruction drive.
A combined team of Thoubal district police, led by Additional SP (Law & Order) N Suraj Singh, along with the assistance of Dy SP (Operations) Th Dinesh, OC of Khongjom Police Station, one platoon of 1st Battalion BSF personnel stationed at Khongjom police station, and a team from the same station including women police personnel, conducted a search operation in Tekcham Maning Leikai on Saturday and recovered an empty INSAS ammunition box and a black cartridge belt.

Earlier, on Friday, security forces carried out a series of search operations and area domination exercises in the fringe and vulnerable areas of both hill and valley districts.
In the course of these operations, several illegal arms and explosives were recovered from Samukom area under Machi PS in Tengnoupal district.
The recovered items included one locally made 12-bore single-barrel gun, one muzzle-loaded rifle, two locally made improvised long-range mortars, 10 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) weighing approximately 37 kg, two locally made 9mm pistols with magazines, five live rounds of 7.62mm SLR ammunition, five live rounds of 7.62mm AK ammunition, 10 live rounds of 7.62mm rimmed (.303 rifle) ammunition, 11 live rounds of 5.56mm INSAS ammunition, five live rounds of 9mm pistol, six No.36 hand grenades, 10 electric detonators, five live rounds of 12-bore cartridges, one handset, and one lion charger.
On the same day, central forces apprehended an active cadre of the proscribed People's Liberation Army (PLA) identified as Saikhom Mahesh Singh (23) from Kultuh village area near the Indo-Myanmar border pillars 114 and 115 under Chassad PS in Kamjong district.
A pistol, six live rounds of 9mm ammunition, one Chinese grenade, one radio set, and one mobile phone were seized from his possession.
Additionally, security forces arrested four individuals involved in extortion activities along the National Highway-2 .
The arrested individuals, identified as Lungousem Kipgen (29), Letminlal Kipgen (25), Satminlun Tuboi (24), and Thanggoulun Kilong (27), were apprehended from Bimparao in Kangpokpi district.
Two four-wheelers, three mobile phones, a wireless earpiece with a cover, cash amounting to Rs 8,550, and a small Puma bag were seized from their possession.
