MPCC observes birth, death anniversaries

The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) today observed the 149th birth anniversary of India's first Deputy Prime Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the 40 death anniversary of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at Congress Bhavan, BT Road here.
CWC Member Gaikhan-gam, Congress MLAs, former MLAs, MPCC office bearers, PCC members and many others attended the function and they paid floral tributes to photographs of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Indira Gandhi.
The gathering also took a collective pledge.
Gaikhangam said that the Congress party was observing the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Indira Gandhi in recognition of the sacrifices they made and their contributions to the growth of India.
From birth till her death, Indira Gandhi who was given the title "Iron Lady of India" sacrificed her life for the country.
The death anniversary of Indira Gandhi is also observed as National Integra- tion Day, Gaikhangam said.
As the first Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of independent India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, also known as Iron Man of India, took pivotal roles in unifying and strengthening India, the CWC member said.
The present situation of the country needs leaders like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and Indira Gandhi, he said.
