Imphal, August 31 2013 : There were neither students nor classes conducted in Golapati LP School, having Classes I and II, however, the School was found running fictitiously by ingesting every materials sanctioned for the students.

A team of DESAM volunteers carried out inspection at Golapati LP School located at Hatta Golapati here today and discovered that there are four teachers, including the headmaster, enrolled as teaching staff members.

Service of the three teachers were utilised on hire.

When approached Ibemcha Begum, wife of the Headmaster Md Abdul Malik told the DESAM team and accompanying media persons that her husband left for New Delhi for a work on Aug 17 .

Even though no attendance register of the teachers could be traced at the school, she contended that a man and a woman came and took the attendance register having details of 60-70 students of the school.

Contrary to the DESAM volunteers unable to spot any student during the inspection, Ibemcha claimed that mid day meal are being provided everyday by engaging a cook.

The team also found one Ayub Khan of Kwakta and his five children, occupying the classrooms.

Ayub Khan is reportedly engaged as the care-taker (chowkidar) .

According to a daughter of Ayub Khan the headmaster or his family are neither related nor do they pay rent to Abdul Malik.

Reacting on the startling discovery, DESAM secretary general Arambam Thoithoi said inspite of the said LP school having no student materials including food items provided under mid day meal are being regularly collected under the pretext that there are around 52 students still studying in the school.

The three individuals hired as teachers are also deprived of their monthly entitlements with the headmaster reportedly insisting they do not conform with 'appointment' norms.

Accusing AIs and DIs of ZEO Imphal East district of not dispensing their duties such as regular inspections of schools under their jurisdiction, Thoithoi suggested that higher authorities take necessary measures to improve quality of education in the State as well as to weed out elements inimical to the society or whose conduct stand to demean sincere efforts of many teachers.
