With the North East Frontier Railways demand for three officials from the State Revenue Department to help in land acquisition drive for the Jiribam-Tupul rail line being fulfilled, track laying work along this route would commence in the early part of next year, informed an official of Railways Ministry.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, an official of North East Frontier Railways informed that survey work for the 98 kms long Jiribam-Tupul rail line has been completed for 30 kms.
Being the rainy season, the survey work has been suspended as of now but it would be resumed once the monsoon season is over, disclosed the official.
Survey works have been completed for 10 kms from Jiribam side in addition to another 20 from Tupul side, he informed.
Conveying that the Deputy Commissioners concerned and the State Government have been intimated to begin land acquisition process where survey works have been completed, the official noted that no untoward incident or any hindrance was reported during the survey work.
He also acknowledged the support provided by the State Government in the survey work.
To a question, he informed that the project is slated for completion by 2011 and the estimated cost of the rail project is Rs 727 crores.
It is reported that in response to North East Frontier Railways' request for three Revenue officials, the State Govt has decided to send one SK and two amins from the Revenue Dept on deputation.
On the other hand, taking into account of the proposed rail line, the Nungba SDO is likely to be upgraded to the level of ADC while Jiribam sub-division would be granted the status of a full-fledged revenue district.
