Imphal, June 30: Taking strong Exception against the statement of the Zeliangrong Union (AMN) which was published in some section of the media today, the All Zeliangrong Students' Union (AMN) today categorically stated that contrary to the claims of the Zeliangrong Union (AMN), Samson Remmei, the acting president of UNC was officially nominated as the Assembly Secretary of UNC of May 24, 2005 by the then president of ZU (AMN) D Dimkambui after which he was appointed as the Speaker of the UNC since August 2006.In a statement, the student body said that the claim of the ZU that Samson Remmei was not officially nominated to the UNC by the ZU is akin to saying that D Dimkambui was not the president of ZU (AMN) af that time.

The claim that Samson Remmei was blacklisted by the ZU in 1991 is nothing but fake propaganda, said the student body.

On the other hand Samson Remmei is a reputed student leader as well as a social worker not only among the Zeliangrong community but of the Nagas/tribals of Manipur, in general.

Listing the public offices held by Samson Remmei, the AZSU said that he was the Chairman of ZSUM (1991-1996), ANSAM, Speaker (1996-2003), General Secretary AZSU (AMN, 1997-2000), General Secretary ATSUM (2003-2006), Assembly Speaker of UNC (2005-06), Speaker UNC (2006-07), Speaker cum acting president of UNC (2007-2008).The allegations of the ZU are true then why are the people Zeliangrong people in particular and the Nagas and the tribal people of Manipur in general have assigned so important posts to Samson Remmei, countered the student body.

The allegations are all baseless and unfounded, said AZSU and added that it and ZSUM will stand by their former student leaders through thick and thin.
