Imphal, May 31 2024:
As many as 8,000 bags of fertilizers worth Rs 1.60 crore kept at a godown at Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai have submerged under water.
The fertilizers that have submerged include Urea, MOP (Muriate of Potassium), DAP (Diammonium phosphate) and NPK (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium) .
The fertilizers belong to Leishangthem Shantikumar, a dealer from Thoubal Khekman who has been staying at Chingmeirong.
Shantikumar said due to the rapid speed in which water overflooded from the river, he had no time to move the fertilizers.
He said he didn't expect the water to inundate the godown and cause flooding in the area.
As river banks caved in at several places at Khurai Salanthong Lairikyengbam Leikai and Kairang area, water level rose in the area rapidly, he said.
Shantikumar said around 8,000 bags of different fertilizers worth Rs 1.60 crore have been submerged and wasted.
