Assam Rifles, Army celebrate International Women's Day

Assam Rifles on Saturday marked International Women's Day (IWD) with various programmes across Manipur, including at Mantripukhri Garrison, Komilakhong, Chandrakhong (Thoubal), and Chandel, Kakching, Kamjong, and Ukhrul districts, reaffirming its commitment to women's empowerment, health, and community development witnessing the participation of over 1300 women.
The commemorative events at the different locations included flower pot competition, lecture on women's empowerment, award ceremony recognising outstanding contributions, interactive discussions on women's issues, fostering engagement and camaraderie, community cooking competition, provision of study materials and essential supplies to Tabitha Orphanage in Mantripukhri, benefiting 60 students, ARWAA regional president Navjeet Kaur Kamboj extending emotional support to the children, conduct of "A Day with Riflewomen" for village girls, motivational session, weapon display, rope climbing, and firing range visit, volleyball matches, dog show, yoga, painting competitions, awareness lectures, medical camp on maternal health and nutrition, inspiring speeches by Manipur's first woman mountaineer N Bidyapati Devi, felicitation of women supporting peace efforts; awareness run, financial literacy sessions, self-defence training, health workshops, screening of community movie, etc.
At Pallel (Kakching district), Assam Rifles conducted an awareness lecture for ex-servicemen, widows, Veer Naris, and dependents, highlighting various welfare grants and financial support schemes, followed by a tree plantation drive.
At Pangaltabi (Kakching district) and Unopat (Chandel district), Assam Rifles organised a cleanliness drive, an interactive session, and a medical check-up, emphasising community well-being and women's health.
Women were honoured with gifts in recognition of their contributions to society on the occasion while a motivational session and a volleyball match were conducted at Unopat village.
In Churachandpur district, Assam Rifles marked the occasion by distributing essential items such as solar lights, chairs, plastic wardrobes, and food supplies to a local girl orphanage.
The Indian Army also commemorated the International Women's Day with a series of events across the state, reinforcing the commitment to women empowerment, health awareness and community engagement.
At Leimakhong military station, Red Shield Division Family Welfare Organisation (FWO) chairperson Priya Kartikeya led the felicitation by honouring 29 women conservancy staff for their dedication to maintaining cleanliness and greenery, acknowledging their tireless contributions, a release by PRO Defence informed.
As a part of the celebration, Army organised lecture on women empowerment, friendly volleyball match, Women's Health Awareness Session, discussion on 'The Role of Women in the Armed Forces', medical camp, health awareness drive to educate displaced families on preventive healthcare and nutrition, 'Run for Fun', interactive session on hygiene and sanitation, livelihood enhancement programmes, etc.
