AR celebrates Chakkouba, conducts football tourney

Imphal, October 31 2024: Assam Rifles celebrated Ningol Chakkouba festival at Sangaithel, Imphal West district on Thursday with the participation of around 70 women from nearby villages, honouring the tradition of married women returning to their parental homes.

In a gesture of solidarity and respect, AR troops distributed gifts to the women, reinforcing their commitment to fostering harmony and connection with the local community, said a PRO IGAR (S) release.

Meanwhile, Assam Rifles organised an Inter-Village Football Tournament at Chongjang village on Wednesday with participation from four teams from Chongjang, Gangpijang, T Bongmol, and Chalson, Tengnoupal district.

In the final match, Chongjang defeated Gangpijang 2-0 .

The event attracted around 150 villagers' including local chiefs, fostering community spirit.

Following the matches, prizes were awarded to the winners and runners-up, the PRO said in another release.
