Imphal, October 01 2024:
Assam Rifles on Tuesday organised a wreath laying ceremony to honour the sacrifices of riflemen Udai Bahadur Chhetri and Rudra Bahadur Chhetri of 4 Assam Rifles.
According to PRO IGAR (S), on October 1, 1958 rifleman Udai Bahadur Chhetri was part of a convoy protection party patrolling the Imphal road.
When insurgents laid an ambush, he fought bravely, sustaining gunshot wounds in the fire fight.
His ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty still resonates with the courage that Assam Rifles stands for.
Forty years later, on October 1, 1998, rifleman Rudra Bahadur Chhetri, during an operation in Tuensang district, Nagaland, faced a similar situation.
Amidst heavy enemy fire, his commitment to duty saw him fight till his last breath, securing the lives of his comrades and the safety of the nation.
These stories of valour were recounted with heartfelt reverence at the War Memorial, where the Assam Rifles family gathered to pay homage.
The ceremony, marked by the laying of wreaths, was a reflection of the enduring respect for those who chose to protect others, no matter the cost, said the PRO.
