Plantation drive held, man bitten by snake saved

Assam Rifles on Tuesday organised a mass tree plantation drive in collaboration with Gamnoum village authorities in Ukhrul district, as part of its environment friendly initiatives.
The drive had the participation of 38 villagers, including five representatives from Gamnoum Village Council, and plantation of 950 saplings along the Shangshak-Chassad road, according a PRO IGAR (S) release.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles provided life-saving medical assistance to a snake bite victim of Kwakta village, Bishnupur district on Tuesday.
Haji Salauddin, a 64-year-old man, was bitten by a snake on his right hand while working in the field on Tuesday morning.
He rushed home with a local swelling at the site of bite and was brought by relatives to the Assam Rifles Unit Hospital at Kangvai village, Churachandpur district for medical assistance.
The Assam Rifles medical staff promptly assessed his condition and provided essential care, stabilising him.
Haji Salauddin is now on the path to recovery, said the PRO in another release.
