Imphal, January 24 2022:
Amid the recent cases of two people dying from rabies, the state veterinary department seems to have run out of anti-rabies vaccine, said Dog Protection Society (DPS) secretary Moirangthem Naoba.
In a press meet held at the Society's office in Thangmeiband Maisnam Leikai on Monday, Naoba said that after two people reportedly died from rabies after getting bitten by rabid dogs, DPS was requested to organise anti-rabies vaccination drive in several places.
As such, the Society went to the director of the veterinary department to provide the vaccines for the drive.
However, the director informed that the department does not have any more vaccines and then went to purchase the vaccines from a private clinic to give them to DPS.
Thus, he urged the government to look into the matter immediately and ensure adequate availability of anti-rabies vaccine in the state.
