AR honours martyred soldiers

Assam Rifles on Tuesday organised a wreath-laying ceremony at the National War Memorial, New Delhi to pay tributes to naib subedar P Srinivas Rao of 33 Assam Rifles, who made the supreme sacrifice on September 9, 2012 at Moirang Khunou in Bishnupr district.
Recounting that Srinivas Rao lost his life in an IED explosion while carrying out road opening duty, a release issued by PRO IGAR (S) said that the solemn ceremony was also attended by the martyred soldier's wife P Padmaja and daughter P Nikita, along with senior officials and personnel of the Assam Rifles.
A similar event was also organised at Sehlon in Chandel district in honour of lance naik Khim Bahadur Thapa, who made the ultimate sacrifice displaying unwavering courage and dedication to duty despite facing overwhelming odds in intense counter insurgency operation in Aizawl, Mizoram on March 5, 1966, the PRO informed.
According to the PRO, during the first week of March 1966, MNF cadres attacked Assam Rifles headquarters during which lance naik Khim Bahadur Thapa courageously protected his post and prevented the MNF insurgents from advancing towards the headquarters.
During the firefight, Thapa was injured and made the supreme sacrifice displaying valour and courage.
During the ceremony, wreaths were laid by senior officials of Assam Rifles who exhorted all ranks to infuse pride and honour in the force.
