AR conducts plantation drive, aids IDPs

As a part of its environment friendly initiatives, Assam Rifles organised a mass tree plantation drive on Wednesday in collaboration with the village authorities and residents of Sorde village in Kamjong district, according to PRO IGAR (S) .
In a release, the PRO informed that 42 locals, including five representatives from Sorde Village Council and 21 students from the Sorde High School, participated in the plantation drive, which started with a welcome speech stressing the need for protection of natural resources, especially forests.
Thereafter, 1250 saplings were planted along the Shangshak-Kasong road, which is part of the state highway 102A, added the PRO.
Meanwhile, Assam Rifles provided humanitarian assistance to internally displaced people (IDPs) at a relief camp at Laphupat Tera village, Imphal West district on August 6 .
Basic necessities such as rice, sugar, milk, refined oil, salt and eggs were distributed to 97 IDPs of the relief camp.
The IDPs included 39 children, 34 women and 24 men, the PRO said in another release.
