AR destroys illegal poppy plantations

Imphal, December 21 2024:
Assam Rifles, in collaboration with local police and forest officials, carried out a coordinated five-day operation from December 10 to 17, to destroy illegal poppy cultivation in the Sihai, Tora, Changtaand, and Champung areas of Ukhrul district.
The operation resulted in the identification and destruction of approximately 247 acres of illicit poppy plantations across challenging terrain.
The operation was executed with precision through effective intelligence gathering, meticulous planning and seamless inter-agency collaboration.
It not only delivered a significant setback to the drug trade but also reinforced efforts toward sustainable development and enduring peace in the region, according to a press release from PRO IGAR (S) .
Meanwhile, AR assisted in the destruction of five acres of illegal poppy cultivation in Churachandpur district.
On December 18, AR, in coordination with Manipur Police and personnel from the Narcotics and Affairs of Borders (NAB), carried out an operation targeting illicit fields in Old Phaisat village based on specific intelligence, the release said.
