Bomb threat to RIMS staffer protested

Imphal, April 17 2025: Unknown persons placed a remote-controlled improvised explosive device (IED) at the front gate of the residence of RIMS multitasking staff member Md Iliyas alias Tipu in Khergao Makha Leikai under Porompat PS on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday.

According to a police report, the bomb, weighing 3.5 kg, was discovered around 4 am Wednesday.

Upon receiving the alert, a team from Porompat police station arrived at the scene and initiated security measures.

Bomb disposal experts also arrived at the scene and safely removed the IED from the spot around 7 am.

The device was later detonated at Awaching.

Md Iliyas is also the finance secretary of YOVA Club, Khergao.

While the identity of the persons who placed the bomb and their motives remain unknown, Porompat Police Station has registered a case regarding the incident.

Meanwhile, YOVA Club and Khergao Meira Paibi members jointly staged a sit-in protest at Khergao on Wednesday, condemning the bomb threat.

During the sit-in, protestors held placards inscribed with the slogans, "Arrest the persons involved immediately", "Clarify reason as soon as possible", "Don't obstruct development", and "We condemn bomb threat in crowded areas" .
